How do I get the SiPy to become a station on my WiFi network?

You mix up protocols
Ftp is TCP/IP protocol - you need Wifi conncetion established
default address is 192.168.1.4 user: micro pass: python

Should I be able to run FTP over the usb connection and if so what IP address do I use? I am using WinSCP for FTP which worked with the linkit smart 7688 duo module.

@pmulvey Better do not try to use pymakr, since that is an abandoned product. On windows, use for instance Putty as Terminal console, and Filezilla or FireFTP for file transfer.
Windows command line FTP will not work, since it is very restricted and outdated, but Windows Telnet can be used. But Putty is more convenient, since it supports both serial and telnet connections.
