Pybytes.pycom.io notifications - how does this work?

I noticed that there's a "notifications" tab in Pybytes for each device. I set up a notification, and it shows up on the web UI. How do we utilize this? I figured it might send an email when a notification occurs, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
