upython and heap library

I see that the heap library is available for upython via upip. It appears that pycom does not have the heap library nor upip. I see there is some talk about installing upip in pyfs forum. Is there a guide for how to get upip installed on a pycom device?
It seems that the pycom version of micropython is sparse.
