What connectivity is best suitable for IoT asset tracking now and in future?

Nobody knows the future exactly ;) I would recommend using either LoRa, SigFox or LTE-M networks. Where LTE-M has more reliability, allows higher datarates and has better coverage, but coming at an expense of needing a simcard and LTE-M contract.
Depending on your application, LoRa and SigFox can also offer a fine solution for your needs. Where SigFox also has better coverage, but also coming at a premium.

You can do more research into the tradeoffs of each network, but I cannot tell you which one to choose.
