How many LoPy devices can connect to a single Pygate?
-
Hi guys, I'm interested in the Pygate as a gateway for allowing LoPy devices to access the internet. What is the number of LoPy devices that can connect to the Pygate?
-
@Gijs It was responding to the original posters question.

@thinginnovations Please create a separate topic describing your issues in more detail (firmware version, what happens when the connection is lost etc.) so we can debug the situation.

Currently not many devices can use the Pygate gateway because I have found it to be unreliable in that either the ethernet or WiFi loses connection after a few hours.
Has anyone actually found out why the connections keep failing?
Thanks
Andrew

@averri Lopy devices do not connect to a gateway. The gateway is a stateless message forwarder between the LoRa node and the LoRa host server. Therefore the number is mostly limited by the cumulated airtime used by these LoPy devices in each channel and the number of channels the LoRa gateway, 8 in the case of PyGate.
You should be able to find analysis documents about that in the internet. For instance: https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/forum/t/how-many-gateways-are-needed-to-support-1-000-nodes-sending-10-bytes-per-5-minutes/5527
