WiPy 2.0 came flashed with incomplete firmware.

I just got my wipy 2.0, and the firmware it came with was missing some crucial functions, such as
wlan.ifconfigand both reset cause constants in themachinemodule. What can I do to get the missing functions and constants?

Since you alsready have determined the ancient formware version, the serial connection (cable, port) should be working. And then:- did you close the terminal window?
- did you connect G23 and GND?
- did you reset the device after that?
- do cou have an internet connection up? The recent image is fetched during update.

Do you know how long the 'fetching info from device' stage should take? It seemed to get stuck there for me...

As the docs advice it is best to update to the latest firmware before using the product.
You can do this with the firmware update utility: link.
