Pysense with non-rechargeable batteries

I assume that attaching non-rechargeable alkaline batteries to the Pysense expansion board via the JST connector is a bad idea, right? Or will the charging chip do some kind of battery type detection?

Alternatively, soldering a case for 3xAAA batteries directly to the Vin pin (top right, labelled 5V on the pinout diagram) should be fine, right?
