Trying to install MicroPython 1.9.3

I just installed the latest firmware for the WiPy 2.0 via the Pycom firmware updater. It now shows MicroPython version 1.8.6. I tried using Filezilla to upload mcuimg.bin to the /flash/sys directory, but it times out most of the time. If it doesn't time out, I can see the mcuimg.bin file in the /flash/sys directory which, (according to this site https://micropython.org/resources/docs/en/latest/wipy/wipy/general.html#upgrading-the-firmware-over-the-air), I shouldn't be able to. How do I upgrade my WiPY to MicroPython 1.9.3? I am trying to use the umqtt libraries.

For the WiPy2 you will need to follow the instructions found here: https://docs.pycom.io/

Do you really talking about Wipy1 or do you have Wipy2 or maybe Wipy3?
I suppose you have new one (2 or 3) with ESP32.
Above link is only valid for Wipy1.

You can not update micropython self as pycom have custom firmware.
There was some work to merge pycom repo with official but i don't know at what stage it is
