LoPy Nano-Gateway communication

I plan to create a network of many lopys wich will communicate between themselves.

Do you know how many LoPy devices can we connect that way, using the Nano-Gateway method that Roberto is using here ? https://forum.pycom.io/topic/236/lopy-nano-gateway

How many Nano-Gateways will be needed for a bigger network, and is that working the same way as the Routers/Coordinators do in a Zigbee network ?

Wich params can be modified to improve the long-range communication ?
