Core panics during sqnsupgrade as well as generally



  • I've been plagued with core panics with this GPy module that I started using, only purchased in the last 2 weeks approx.

    At first the device was running an old version main firmware which had some different function in micropython (I migrated base code from a program which was working on LoPy4), so updated the main firmware to 1.20.2r1. Then when I implemented LTE the core panics became increasingly obvious.

    Checking the forums it appeared that maybe the issue was then the LTE modem stability (modem had 43xxx) so I tried a sqnsupdate procedure.

    Even with a cleanly erased GPy, it proceeds to core panic every time during sqnsupdate, not neccessarily in the same update position and not necessarily the same type high level core panic (I don't know what all the dump means) but usually IllegalInstructionError. The most notable was a DoubleExceptionError, it would not even give me the register or dump afterwards.

    Also to test, I loaded a program without LTE being started and after a length of time it does still core panic. At the moment I am running the P9 LED blinker tutorial but it has not been able to elicit the fault within the same kind of timeframe (usually less than 10 minutes, the sqnsupdate is probably much quicker than that).

    Have tried:
    Reformat and reload SD card sqns dup and elf
    Disable pybytes at boot, not use pybytes on firmware updater (I did not have it activated anyway)
    Load 1.20.2rc7
    Erase/format all on firmware updater
    Different USB cable
    format /flash explicitly
    checked that RTS and CTS jumpers are not fitted

    I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do to resolve this.

    The GPy is on an expansion board 3.1, previously working with the Lopy4. I have tested it without my application expansion hardware.

  • I wanted to post a second core panic with 1.20.2r1 from running the application, where it panics once and then panics again on reset without seeming to get into the application at all. This pattern occurs somewhat often.
