Pymakr VS and Python dependencies

Why does Pymakr in Atom suddenly require python and Visual Studio on your machine in order to be installed? I've installed Atom and Pymakr on half a dozen computers and they never required any other dependencies. I've tried installing earlier versions of both Pymakr and atom and they all seem to require those now.
Why are these now necessary? Is there any combination of Atom/Pymakr versions that will still work without them? Is there anyway to get around installing the whole Visual Studio program and just install whatever specific package is required?
