What is the state of contributions on GitHub ?

  • I've openned serveral issues or pull request on different pycom repository but did not get any feedback from pycom (#463, #462, #159)

Most of the others issues from others contributors doesn't have any reply as well, it's the same for PR, some of them are openned since 2017.

    So my question is:

Does PyCom actually take care of contributions ? While the code is open source, there is no CONTRIBUTING.md nor CODE-OF-CONDUCT.md.

How much does PyCom alocate time for open source contributions ? Is more something like planned or more "yeah, sure, when we have time".

  • @neil-jepsen I’m not sure the issue is cash (though I have no idea of their financial situation). I think it’s more a lack of focus, continuously announcing new vapourware while not addressing issues in existing products or finishing products they have already sold (Pygo anyone?).

I understand their plight, I’m the kind of guy always more interested in the shiny new thing over there, but at some point the business side should take over and set a clear direction and follow it through.

There also seems to be quite a bit of turnover. It looks like @Gijs is no longer around, following a few others who tried to sort some things out for a while and then disappeared.

  • @felix-yadomi
I think that pycom are in financial trouble and don't have the staff or the money or the resources to address problems from users. I think they are overwhelmed with technical issues and at some time in the near future we will see pycon dissappear from the market. These are my opinions only , based on your observations and my experiences also. Recently my company embarked on a project with a pycom product and ran into similar ussues after having invested about 2000 hrs of engineers time. Despite raising questions directly with their technical people, pycom simply didn't reply, despite several reminders. As a result we have pulled the plug and are continuing with another non-pycom device.
