Nice method to check if SD-card is removed

Hi folks,
I'm looking for a nice way to check if an SD card has been removed.
After a succesful OTA update from the SD card, I have a reason to not reboot right away, but wait until the SD card has been removed.
I understand that I could stat() a file until it is no longer valid, but that's not really a solution to me.
Maybe one of the pins has a certain behaviour when card is present / not present?

What device?
If you use cusom sdcard (attached by wires) then there are plenty of slots with card remove detect pin.
