Deployment with dev boards

Are the dev boards only good for personal projects/experiment. Can these be used for deployments ie. environmental monitoring by plugging them into custom made boards with temperature and humidity sensors connected to them for enterprise IoT deployment. This example with OEM module can be built with dev board(Lopy)

Boards can be used for what ever you like as long as you obey local laws and safety procedures. Use IP66 enclosures, fuses etc
