FiPy LTE antenna clarification

When I received my FiPy modules, there was a big warning about making sure the LTE antenna was connected, to avoid damage. To clarify, must the antenna be connected always, in all cases, or only if LTE is used? Can I leave it off if I'm only using one of other comms modules?

You can leave it off if you don't use the LTE-M functionality
