Compatible with traditional 3G/4G mobile data
-
Good morning from Spain to everybody,
I have two questions:
-
Is FiPy compatible with the 3G (UMTS) network?
I'm working with Hologram SIMs that works with LTE/3G/2G in a mobile device with APN "hologram" because, by default install a pepperWEB (Jersey) with APN "pepper" thats it does not work in Spain (or in my region). -
But with FiPy and the latest firmware, I get not answer with lte.attach() and the function lte.isattached() always give me False. I try to change APN from this thread: [https://forum.pycom.io/topic/2769/telstra-lte-cat-m-working-on-fipy-just](link url) with the same problem, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Hi @danielm
Daniel already answered you on the thread you created about this https://forum.pycom.io/post/16677He's the right person to ask about timelines etc

@jmarcelino
When do you expect initial NB-IoT support to be released?
-
@unocerobits
It's the hardware. Both LTE-M1 and NB-IoT have narrower bandwidths (extremely narrower in the case of NB-IoT) and trade off speed for simplicity, lower power and longer range.
-
It's a shame!
Curiosity, Is FiPy's firmware limitation? or modem technology?
Thanks @jmarcelino.

¡Hola! @unocerobits
The FiPy only supports LTE-M (Cat M1) and (soon) NB-IoT. It doesn't support 3G or regular phone-style LTE.
These are new protocols being deployed in Spain (e.g. Telefonica) please contact them about coverage.
