Is it possible to update time using Lora Otaa?
-
Hello, I am trying to obtain correct time in my lopy, the problem is that I want to use the minimum power, that is why I disable the wifi, is it possible to synchronize the RTC information by Lora-Otaa? actually, I am using the TTN operator.
Thanks
Jose

@charly86 thank you, I will try it

@bmarkus yeah sorry, forgot to mention this method is not accuracy proof ;)
It’s not related to otaa i just said you can do it after join (which is part of otaa) but there is no other way to do that as far as I know

@jclo13 after join your module can send a Lora frame on custom port, then backend can see this frame and prepare a downlink with time. On next uplink device will receive time.
Need some work but will worksHow is it related to OTAA?
Also keep in mind downlink will be sent after the next uplink. Reception delay depends on many factor, like RX window settings, transmission delays, etc. You have to correct time received and expect few seconds inaccuracy at the end, at least using 'Class-A'.
Using 'Class-B' beacons would be different.

Hi @jclo13,
You can use the RTC module for keeping track of time. By setting the NTP server, you can keep it synced with a server. (You'll need WiFi connection)

thank you for your answers, @jubbs how can I do it?

LoRaWAN OTAA has nothing to do with time. The answer is no.

The best method I could determine was to use the GPS shield and get the time from that.
