      @daniel I'm trying to update from a system that has Python 3.5.2:

      Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "./bin/updater.py", line 3, in <module>
      from esptool import ESP32ROM
      File "/root/pyupgrade/bin/esptool.py", line 183
      print '%s' % inst.CHIP_NAME
      ^
      SyntaxError: Missing parentheses in call to 'print'

        @daniel I left my Linux PC at work but I can post the error message tomorrow. I tried the update tool on my Mac from my home network and that worked fine. Unless you changed something it seems to be the firewall at work that stops the necessary network traffic. I am therefore wondering how you are trying to serve the firmware?

          @daniel It looks like something went really wrong with the LoPy that I tried to upgrade earlier today without success. I am now not able to get in contact with it at all. The procedure for safe boot is not working (P12 to V3V and reset; does not result in orange blinking LED. The WiFi that is usually served by the LoPy is not present). Any ideas on how to fix this or is this LoPy gone forever?

          I have however successfully upgraded other LoPy devices (from home) to 1.0.0.b2.

            @daniel Ah, modifying update.py to run python2 explicitly works on a Pi3 running manjaro. Plugging into my laptop may have been easier, but I was curious.

            BLE scan can run repeatedly, and machine.reset() works for me. Thank you!

              try once again your upgrade - deselect "fast connection" or something simmillar in updater tool - it help me on one device maybe you got success also

                @arneme no matter how wrong things went, it's not broken for sure. The updater tool is able to program devices with a blank flash memory. You don't need to do a safe boot, simply use the updater tool to flash the latest firmware on it. On the failed update before some sections of the flash memory of your LoPy were erased and not programmed again, that's why it doesn't boot anymore, but the updater tool can fix it without any doubt.

                Cheers,
                Daniel

                  Thanks for the update.
                  I can confirm that WiFi scan now works after Bluetooth instantiation.

                  Cheers,
                  M.

                      @daniel By default this "fast connection" option is checked and first time when I was updating my LoPy I get an error. Second time with this option unchecked update was successful. Can you say a little bit more about this option? Thanx. ;o)

                      The machine is working as good as it's code.

                        Yesterday I've noticed that this code is working:

                        from network import WLAN
                        wlan = WLAN(mode=WLAN.STA)

                        and this isn't:

                        import network
                        wlan = network.WLAN(mode=WLAN.STA)

                        Please check and let me know if I'm alone with this issue. ;o)

                          Unless I'm mistaken github.com/pycom/pycom-micropython hasn't yet been updated with this version. The last commit 765f2bc is from 18 days ago. Can you please update the repository?

                              The "firmware" directory is missing in file pycom_update_1.0.0.b2.tar.gz

                                The firmware file is downloaded automatically. This way you'll always get the latest version of the firmware without having to go to the website and download a new package.

                                      To make it work you have to do:

                                      import network
                                      wlan = network.WLAN(mode=network.WLAN.STA)

                                      You have only imported the network module, therefore WLAN.STA cannot be resolved.

                                      Cheers,
                                      Daniel

                                        @daniel Thank you. My mistake. But the same mistake is in the docs https://docs.pycom.io/pycom_esp32/library/network.WLAN.html so it should be corrected.

                                        The machine is working as good as it's code.

                                          The dialog based updater downloads to ${TEMP_DIR}/tmpfile I haven't checked the gui based updater. The update binary is deleted after it is flashed.

                                          You can download the firmware packages directly without the updater:

                                          # You can use wget -qO- instead of curl -sL
                                          #For WiPy2:
                                          curl -sL "https://software.pycom.io/findupgrade?key=wipy.wipy%20with%20esp32&redirect=false&type=all"

                                          #For LoPy 868:
                                          curl -sL "https://software.pycom.io/findupgrade?key=lopy.lopy%20with%20esp32.868&redirect=false&type=all"

                                          #For LoPy 915:
                                          curl -sL "https://software.pycom.io/findupgrade?key=lopy.lopy%20with%20esp32.915&redirect=false&type=all"

                                          You should get an output similar to this:

                                          {"key":"lopy.lopy with esp32.868","file":"https://software.pycom.io/downloads/1.0.0.b2-LoPy_868.tar.gz","version":"1.0.0.b2","intVersion":67108994,"hash":"7fbe262192c713e01e7e049de93d522ed38c71e4"}

                                          The "file" attribute shows the direct link to the firmware binary files. You can then download the file with wget "https://software.pycom.io/downloads/1.0.0.b2-LoPy_868.tar.gz" and use bin/updater.py -t 1.0.0.b2-LoPy_868.tar.gz -p /dev/ttyUSB0
