Thanks for your report on the bug. We're aware of it, and the next version of Pymakr fixes this and other small bugs. Stay tuned for the upcoming release this week.
-
@robert-hh A new version of Pymakr has just been released. We believe this bug has been partially fixed with it. There is some specific Linux information, so I invite you to check the release notes at:
https://www.pycom.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Pycom-Pymakr-Beta-Release1.0.0.b5-Notes-V1-19October2016.pdf -
Tried it. No sucess. The same error is thrown.
-
@robert-hh Thanks for your feedback. We'll have to further study the case directly in Debian Jessie and see what's going on. In the meantime, if you wanna try, the error means QScintilla (and other dependencies) are not being found. This mean either it wasn't installed, or it was installed for another Python interpreter in the system.

Hi,
I had same problem as above. After installing python-pyqt5.qsci package it got bit further.
Now i get following error:Python 2.7.12+

Hi,
I gave in trying. As a test, I installed the Windows version, just to see, that for me PyMakr is as useless as before. Practically, It's just another Editor. The integration of the modules does not seem to exist. PyCom should focus their energy in making the firmware for their devices.
Best Regards
-
@wathoom, even when most of the codebase is compatible with PyQt5, we're using PyQt4. Internally, Pymakr would import it if available, no matter if the code read PyQt5. Can you try installing PyQt 4 on your computer?
-
Are you sure that pymakr is using PyQT4? If yes, Why do I get the error message:
from PyQt5.Qsci import QSCINTILLA_VERSION_STR, QsciScintilla
b.t.w: I can import PyQt4,Qsci.
Today's build is still not running. As long as such a crap is out, you shpould not issue board which cannot be used without pymakr.

Hi @robert-hh,
I can sense your frustration on trying Pymakr and not being able to run it. I went into downloading the Debian Jessie from the official website and installed it in a VirtualBox machine, with Cinnamon as the UI. I then downloaded the deb installer from our website, and proceeded to install it with these steps:
sudo dpkg -i pymakr_1.0.0.b6-1_all.deb sudo apt-get install -fThen I started the app from the menu, and it worked.
I really want to help you to find a solution for your specific setup, but I'll need further feedback from you in order to do so.
Regards,
Abilio -
Hi abilio,
pyqt4 is already installed.
-
Hi @wathoom,
From your previous error log, I can see is using PyQt 5.7 thought. Is this still the case? Can you confirm me if you have both version 4 and 5 installed simultaneously?
-
Hi abilio, I did a similar thing with Ubuntu 16.04, which I had installed a few days ago in a virtual machine, and there it works! So the set-up in my debian machine seems to be twisted. I see both Qt4 and Qt5 files, and that may be the source of the trouble. I cannot remove qt5 with pipx uninstall or atp-get remove.
Still, like the Windows version, pymakr does not convince me at all. It still seems not support wireless links to the boards, which is a shame, since the outstanding feature of all your products is their wirelesl support.
And for just another editor I see no need. At least, you should keep the options to configure and install your boards with command line tools, and document these properly.Regards, Robert
-
It's using pyqt5 but pyqt4 is also there.
So yes, both versions are installed simultaneously. -
@wathoom, I do believe that's the reason. In order to reproduce it, I'm going to install PyQt5 as well. I'll post back the findings.
-
@robert-hh, there was an issue with Pymakr beta 5 not syncing to the last WiPy 2/LoPy boards, but it has been fixed on beta 6. And for connecting over wireless, the support has always been there. You just need to type down the board IP number in the device field of the settings.
You could agree that editors are an issue of personal taste, and the most experienced users will have their favorite one. What we're trying to create with Pymakr is a tool for those Python newcomers and other users that like the simplicity of connecting to their boards without having to open a command line dialog and a FTP client tool. But rest assured we will try to maintain and improve the already existing methods as well.
Regards,
-
OK. Using the IP address does something: It tries to connect to my WiPy 1, but fails. My LoPy device is still on the road, since Oct. 12. It got lost somewhere on the mail. Isabelle tries to locate it..
And to be honest: the field tells: IP address or device. Is it possible to use an symbolic IP address? -
Hi @wathoom, I can now confirm that having both PyQt4 and PyQt5 seems to be the culprit.
As we now identified the real cause of it, we will look for a solution to this problem and try to include it in the upcoming release.
Thank you so much for all your support and your patience.
-
@robert-hh . Yes, it is possible to put a name in that field, if you have a DNS (or hosts) entry for it. Can I ask something about your WiPy 1 setup? Are you running it as an access point
mode=WLAN.AP, or stationmode=WLAN.STA? -
WiPy is running in it's default configuration as an Access point, and I can Telnet & ftp to it.
