@Bettina does the team have any recs or resources on where to look for additional equipment needed to make the stock hotspot suitable for a roof top deployment?

@Bettina Congrats on this wonderful device!
I do have a question I couldn't find an answer to, yet:
What type of helium hotspot is this device? I guess it is a Full Hotspot, right? For information about hotspot types see helium dev docs.
-
@Bettina Great to see price is dropping even for a fulf hotspot. Hopefully you have a more reliable contract manufacturer as your compettitors. Anyway, I orderd a few minutes ago :-)
Two question: Can you confirm that there is a RP-SMA female on the body and the anntena has a RP-SMA male connector. Thx.
The reason why ethernet is only optional is that only WIFI is situable to sync the blockchain ? => Not clear when HIP 55 will be implemented . -
I really wish the discord channel creation will happen faster. That would improve communication a lot!
-
@Lucian-Pavaloi we'll go live with Discord as soon as we start shipping hotspots.
-
@Alexander-Pilhar Thanks and yes it is indeed a Full Hotspot (included in the price are the $40 registration fee and the first $10 Location assertion fee) :-)
-
@Nic-Lalanne Hi Nic, let me come back to you on that one. I need to check a few things.

Hello, I write from Spain.
I want to buy some hotspots but I need to know the final price in Spain. What is the "HS Code" of this product to know what fees are going to be applied to the import?
If my sister (who lives in London) buys them, what is the final price with taxes there?
Thank you very much -
@Bettina I believe it's best to go live with the discord channel way before the shipping starts so people can address questions.
Also, can you please explain exactly how the add-on poe module is installed ? maybe a video turorial or something? I want to prepare my setups in advance and I have never used this module so I want to know if I should go with this or do my own poe injector & splitter setup. -
@Bettina can you please explain a bit more about the poe shield? does the device needs this in order to receive poe directly in without the need of a splitter while it still requires an injector, is that what it's for? or can this device be used with the regulat 0.5a 48v poe injectors & splitters already available on the market?
I cannot stress enough the need for a discord server again ....
-
@Nic-Lalanne Sorry, no we don't have that yet. We do have IP67 cases but they are not custom made for the Hotspot.
-
@Francisco-Juan-de-Santos-Iglesias You will most likely be asked to pay VAT when the hotspots enter Spain, coming from the UK. So you'll need to apply the VAT percentage on electronics (and observe if there are any for import duty (which would then be in addition)).
-
@Lucian-Pavaloi We're looking into going live soon.
-
@Lucian-Pavaloi The PoE module adds Ethernet + PoE to the Pycom Helium Hotspot. It supports both active and passive PoE. It doesn't require a splitter but it requires an injector or PoE enabled networking switch.
-
@Martin-Flauger The antenna has RP-SMA male connector. It is provided an RP-SMA female to UFL cable, to attach in the UFL connector in Pygate.
The hotspot could connect to internet via WiFi or via the Ethernet port. Also the Ethernet port has POE capabilities, so the whole unit can be powered. This is good for when installing a hotspot in a rooftop of a building for two reasons, 1-probably in the rooftop you won't have wifi signals, specially if your appartment is not in the last floor, 2-you won;t need to carry cables with power supply and also the antenna cable to bring the signal from your antenna to your hotspot (long cables add extra losses). So, it is will always better to keep the device as close as possible to the antenna, and a POE/internet is great for it, so you will need only a single cable to power your device, and don't need to worry for cable losses, neither for connectivity in the rooftop

@Bettina Can I buy the PoE module later and install it by myself ?
