@abilio I thought it would be possible to power only the RTC. Going with your solution (power backup for the whole board) I think I will go for a battery pack option (in combination with the schottky diode). My intention is to power the boards with 5v so a 4,5V battey pack must do the job. Powerlosses here are incidental, and not very long. Thanks for the help!

I was afraid that the notification part was missing in the firmware but great if it appears soon :-). Thanks for the speedy reply.

uos.urandom is based on a linear feedback shift register, that is seeded with a number derived from the MAC address. The values will "look" like random for a whole period, but still easily predictable. crypto.getrandbits is based on a hardware random number generator that gathers it's bits from random events (noise) received by the WiFi and Bluetooth radios. This source, according to the Espressif, passes randomness tests. @obertuckerz112, needed for writing a few AES examples? probably not. Needed for real life applications? The experts in cryptography say that you need a good source (as in unpredictable) of random numbers for things like the initialization vector (IV). Clearly, uos.urandom is not. In order to allow people to construct the best possible applications, we hence provide access to the hardware random number generator getrandbits as an usable source and recommend the people to use it instead of uos.urandom for cryptography purposes.

Hello @cypereddy, I think you already found the reason for it to stop working, G10 (P23) is the clock for the SD card ;) . Here is the list of pins that are used by the SD card: https://docs.pycom.io/pycom_esp32/library/machine.SD.html?highlight=sd card#class-sd-secure-digital-memory-card

@Apollo said in Lopy - Wifi Bridge: I wasn't planning to watch Netflix over Lora, but was planning to send messages and maybe listen to a web radio station. This made me think I could achieve 300 Kbit/s: http://www.semtech.com/wireless-rf/rf-transceivers/sx1272/ LoRa itself is a radio technology with many different options, like bandwith, data rate, error correction rate, etc. LoRaWAN is a complete network solution specified by Lora Alliance and on the physical level using LoRa technology. LoRaWAN is using unlicensed frequencies shared with other users another non-lora systems. To let other systems work, there is 1% or 0.1% transmit duty cycle limitation imposed by the regulators. LoRaWAN is intended to serve sensor networks with one way communication mainly with low speed, low data volume. If you go for P2P or other protocol but using the 868MHz band rules are still valid. At least in EU. In other regions it may be different. Your use case is not for LoRaWAN, it is not for Internet applications and not a WiFi, 3G/4G replacement.

Micropython supoorts compiled .mpy files since a while. This option is not enabled on LoPy. You can do so, if you build your own image. Just add the line: #define MICROPY_PERSISTENT_CODE_LOAD (1) to esp32/mpconfigport.h and rebuild the flash image with make BOARD=LOPY after building, you can load the image to the lopy witth make BOARD=LOPY flash Be sure to connect G23 and GND, which is needed for all variants of flash loading. You will NOT have more RAM at runtime, but be able to run larger code, since the RAM is not needed for compiling. For building the image you need to setup the build environment. Instructions can be found at https://github.com/pycom/pycom-micropython/README.md, section ESP32. And yes, a Linux system is best for that purpose. It might be a virtual machine, at least for creating the image.

@gertjanvanhethof : Note that TTN will allow gateways using the current Semtech demo protocol (UDP) to connect as well, see https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/forum/t/packet-forwarder-future/4021/3

Note: I updated the code below because the duty_cycle parameter isn't supported. here is the function clean: def select_subband(lora, subband): if (type(subband) is int): if ((subband<1) or (subband>8)): raise ValueError("subband out of range (1-8)") else: raise TypeError("subband must be 1-8") for channel in range(0, 72): lora.remove_channel(channel) for channel in range((subband-1)*8, ((subband-1)*8)+8): lora.add_channel(channel, frequency=902300000+channel*200000, dr_min=0, dr_max=3)

@jeremy try: https://software.pycom.io/downloads/1.2.2.b1-LoPy_868.tar.gz for the 868Mhz version or https://software.pycom.io/downloads/1.2.2.b1-LoPy_915.tar.gz for 915Mhz Everything you need is inside the 'Pycom Firmware Update' app bundle, even if you can't run it you should be able to right click on it and "Show Package Contents". The tools, including the update tool (also Python) are in Contents/Resources/src/bin

@robert-hh, in the current firmware version you cannot do it, but this will change in future releases. Hope it helps :)
