The same thing is happening when I replace the MQTT with the requests library and try to post to an HTTPS API. I believe the problem is th ussl.wrap_socket.

I have the exact same error. It looks like I can't have an Secure MQTT client connected while the bluetooth module is initiated and vice versa. It is working ok if I don't use SSL.

I will try to update the firmware and see what happens. As it is now, every time a run the above snippet it crashes. Also, nothing changes if I reverse the order of the initialization of Bluetooth and MQTT or with time.sleep() between the two.

If yes, what if you change order:
first instantiate bluetooth and next connect to wifi?and sorry for my simple mistake (copy paste), below should be:

After adding the print statements it seems that the print('mem free after: ', str(gc.mem_free())) instruction is the last executed one before the core dump occurs.
