@snehasg96 said in Data Rate of LoRa experiments: @bmarkus Thank you! So if I understood you correctly, sending a packet of payload say less than 64 bytes should be good? Also do you mean i should include the SF to a value between 6-12 in my code? Appreciate your feedback. I say use payload which is within the allowed size and represent a typical size let say around 8-10 bytes. Use the lowest DR (highest SF) which is DR0/SF12 for EU868 and add other DR, DR1...DR5 to see how distance varies by DR. SF6 is not valid for SX127x device chipsets and for Gateways. Please note, LoRa packets can be travel for a long distance randomly, but do not expect that long distance you see for few packets will work in a production environment. Be conservative and base your decision on larger number of samples.

@jcaron said in How can I set the bandwidth of the Lopy4 to 7.8 kHz to achieve the RF sensititvity of -148 dBm?: @bmarkus In Europe, one of the sub-bands allows 10% duty cycle. Also, IIRC if you do LBT-AFA (listen before talk, frequency agility), there's no duty-cycle limit (maybe not on all bands, too lazy to check). You are right, and also allowed RF power may vary on subbands. Still bitrate is very low.

@imasd I was noisy an so I drove over to the HLK place. And indeed, at that spot there is a good sensitive antenna on the top of a 5 story building. The antenna looked like the TaoGlas Barracuda, pretty long. And other short wave antennas. So the person seems to know what she/he is doing.

Solved! Thanks again everyone. The problem was indeed that the antenna was mounted according to the specification for the LoPy1r, so it was actually on the LoRa 433-510 MHz antenna slot. After a quick range test I now receive packets at at least 400 meters distance. Many thanks, I thought I had gone crazy there for a while!

@tainanfish You might be surprised what LoRa can do (and remember in LoRa you CAN set the TX power) but if the question is just cost, then the GPS will be about the same ($8 for a GPS module, same as a LoRa module) To me the problem with GPS is it's even higher power consumption than WiFi.

@jmarcelino Certification is an interesting point. First of all it is available only for 868MHz end devices, but nor for gateways, network servers, etc. Also even if you have a certified product you can reconfigure without hacking to be out of compliance. In the Microchip stack you can do nearly the same config changes as in RN2483 but you can not fully blow it up.
