The LoRa chip (SX1272) is simply a transceiver, the protocol itself runs on the ESP32 core. Currently the Pycom boards just use one ESP32 core for everything, I believe the plan is to move the network stacks to one core and leave the other free for user code.

@livius But beware dodgy antenna vendors. I've seen real abominations coming from China, with imitation N connectors even! I remember a shipment of antennas, all of which measured very different when tested with a VNA. I have seen good antennas coming from China, but they were not cheap. Unless you know very well what you are doing, I would recommend you to stick to proven antenna providers. Personally I can recommend two in Germany: Round Solutions and Wimo. A good hint to identify proper antennas is a good datasheet including a S11/Return loss/SWR graph. And if you want to test the antennas yourself, Mini Radio Solutions sells a very affordable VNA (miniVNA Tiny) that really works. And for anyone interested on learning about the subject I can recommend Joseph Carr's "Practical Antenna Handbook". Beware, antenna design is a complete career path by itself, unless you are deeply interested on the subject you better skim through some sections of the book. But it will help you gain some "instinct" to identify "by heart" what might work and what won't. The ARRL antenna book is an interesting book as well.

@jmarcelino: Yes, Ive read that. But you would still have to compensate for the non-zero range (at least in your circuit). So at the moment and with limited requirements for precision, using the lower attenuation variants 0 and 6db and simply adding an offset would be sufficient as compensation. If you need precise values, yes, then an external ADC is anyhow recommended. B.T.W. Is there still the option to use the ADC in 10 bit mode, like by an option res = xx in the channel set-up?

@pform said in Windows WiFi immediately disconnecting: If I connect my iPad or Android phone they remain connected, but using a browser and going to 192.168.4.1 comes up with a server not found error. This is normal, the Pycom boards don't run web server by default, so 192.168.4.1 is only accessible by FTP or Telnet

Hello, I am using the WiPy 2.0 which is very close to the same thing and have gotten it do do the basics. I am still piecing together how best to use the device as a BLE peripheral, but I know it works. You might want to post a code example. Thanks

@cmsedore Sorry for the delay in merging your code. I'm testing it now and everything looks solid. This will be on the next release. Thanks for your contribution! Cheers, Daniel

Thank you for sharing. Btw, I've always uncheck High speed transfer option, because simply it never worked for me. ;)

@crankshaft Thx. Yes... That's why we want 'a natural way' to re-write a previous firmware.... and run on that one always.

@WaveJunkie Thank you for your very comprehensive answer. Many of the things you mentioned, I have already tried. As previously mentioned I tried with a different lopy using the same computer and cable, and that worked. After that I thought the lopy was dead. However, after a friend wanted to try it on his computer it worked. In disbelief i reconnected it to my computer again and it worked there as well all of a sudden. I have no idea what happened, but I won't complain as I am up and running again :) Thanks again for taking your time to answer.

I'm registered - but not yet operating a (e.g. LoPy based single channel) gateway. But I'll do this next. :-)

Yes, I can confirm it was down. We were working Friday until late with the upcoming tool that supports Sigfox, and left the sever with a bug that eventually made it break down. Sorry for the inconvenience, it is all fixed now.

I have received the same crash numerous times over the last week, basically anything that involves interrupts or threads. I have just implemented a press button debounce / handler using the pin interrupt feature, this works fine as long as nothing else is running, but crashes the system otherwise. I'm glad that I am not the only one seeing this !! https://forum.pycom.io/topic/584/crash-when-running-thread

@gertjanvanhethof great! thanks for the feedback. I know the "out-of-memory" problems are a big issue and we are heavily working on it. Can you tell us how big is your script? Thanks.

@pod32, this was just a minimalistic example that triggers the guru. Unfortunately, we've been busy dealing with other parts of the firmware, and unable to find the root cause of this bug.
