@inverseeffect Unit testing on hardware is a little more difficult that pure software because timings can be variable and you need to have real hardware connected. It certainly is possible to create small units of code and have them run and check their results, it's no different to running your full code, just split into smaller chunks and with more checks.

Hi Jardar, The docs for secure boot are published/duplicated here: https://docs.pycom.io/chapter/advance/encryption.html Encryption key can't be changed, nor re-generated (that's why they should be kept safe). The 3 times limitation is valid just in the following case: the firmware binaries are written not-encrypted using USB (uart), and the ESP32 encrypts all the partitions marked as encrypted (and an ESP32 efuse has to burned. In all the other cases, like OTA update, ftp transfer, the encryption/decryption is made transparently, without the encryption counter being increased.

@TravisT @jcaron Thank you guys! That is exactly what we decided to do. Connect to a webservice on the internet with wifi and make that communicate with the database.

@noboz32 Do you mean just seeing what devices are connected to I2C? If so, please see the i2c.scan() function: https://docs.pycom.io/chapter/firmwareapi/pycom/machine/I2C.html#i2cscan

@bdmc, although what we've built is focused on USB host support, the MAX3421E chip inside is fully capable of acting as a device, too. Check out the First look: USB Host Expansion Board by Semireg

@jcaron said in LoRaWan receive window for downlink is mandatory for node ?: @bmarkus At least in the EU region, RX2 on the standard frequency has the advantage that it allows for a much higher use (10% duty cycle vs 1% in most other bands), and much higher power (if the gateway allows it). Depending on your data rate mix, you might be better off in RX2 than on RX1 RX2 is using a single channel with low data rate. It is obvious, that RX1 using 8 channels and various data rates, specially set automatically by the ADR algorithm offers much higher througput than RX2. Why to demage network performance if not necesary? It could be even better if the gateways allow higher transmit powers and you can use faster data rates than the default on RX2. Not sure I see the link between RX2 and 3G backhaul, unless you mean you need the additional time, but one could set RxDelay to a higher value for that (though that is definitely not a good thing for battery life) rather than pick one window over the other. 3G connections typically offering longer latency than 1s which makes RX1 unusable, and usually changing rapidly even going up to 3-5s. In a production environment it is not a good practice to change RX1 timing anyhow.

Got the issue sorted out myself. The values are documented in the esp-idf: https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/blob/master/components/bt/bluedroid/api/include/esp_gatt_defs.h#L267 just set the values corresponding to your needs. Be sure to set both permissions and properties. Example: The below characteristic supports only READ and NOTIFY: service.characteristic(uuid=0x2001, permissions=(1<<0), properties=(1 << 1) | (1 << 4), value=0)

@jcaron Ok thanks, appreciate the response and will keep all this in mind. Might reduce the frequency of the call-in's to once a day which of course would decrease power consumption appreciably.

@panometric Depends what "large numbers" is. For say 100 you're probably be using the development modules (WiPy, LoPy..) , in that case flash over USB is perfectly doable. You can connect multiple expansion boards to a USB hub and flash in parallel, we have a script for that. For larger deployments you're probably using the OEM modules (W01, L01 etc) in the case we recommend having programming pins available. All you need to program is power, UART TX/RX and two pins to control Reset and GPIO0 (P2)

@mylescai You can access the file system of your FiPy using ftp. Have a look at chapter 2.4 of the documentation: https://docs.pycom.io/chapter/toolsandfeatures/FTP.html That should also be possible in PyMakr. The primary obstacle is, that you might have to set the IP setting of your computers wifi temporarily to use the FiPy's access point. Later, you can reconfigure the FiPy to use your home network as a Station.
