If I understand this correctly, this is not true CSMA, as the transmissions are inhibited by noise and not signal. It would seem like a better idea if transmission was only inhibited by a signal matching the current LoRa modem configuration. In shared unlicensed spectrum, all "users" must accept interference. There is probably no real motivation to avoid transmitting over "foreign" signals (LoRa or other modulations) that produce some level of energy in the receiver passband of the LoRa transmitter. Furthermore, the blocking signal might act as a "hidden transmitter" and only be detectable at the LoRa transmitter's location and have no affect on the SNR at the LoRa receiver's location. I'm not sure if such an alternative mode of operation is plausible. However, I would like the option to choose whether or not the listen before transmit mode is used, either in a fashion similar to the ability to set a socket into a blocking or non-blocking mode, or as an optional parameter to the socket send() call, for raw LoRa sockets. Come to think of it, perhaps I should have suggested this as a feature on github, but I've already typed it here, so I would be interested in any thoughts on this. Update: feature request on github is here.

@jcaron many thanks for bringing more clarity, but even with good answers more questions appears :) the solution with one AP can work for the first stage but the goal is to be independent of the accident shut down of any node. I mean if the main AP is corrupted would it be possible to dynamically switch this role to another active node or is there any possibility to have kind of mash network were all nodes are equal and can retransmit the data to all visible nodes? regarding the environment, most of the use-cases are an industrial plant with not so many walls - most likely there will be a visible path between nodes but something more crowded is also possible. So what about claimed 1km range of Wi-Fi and opportunity of antenna connection? I'm ordering the FiPy for some future exploration of IoT and there is an onboard antenna that can be resoldered to something more powerful or how? about the latency, 20ms will be great but even 50ms will do the job and maybe it's ambiguous but it must be combined with guaranteed delivery regarding all this information maybe it will be better to focus on LTE Cat M1? Because I'm basically in the research stage of what can do the job better, the overall data throughput will be at most 1MB And I'm I understanding tight that the Pycom development environment will provide easy switch between WiFi/LTE Cat M1 in terms of coding? Regards

@robert-hh I agree the sparkfun one seems odd - however the NCD.io device states a minimum of 100 feet and so should be able to do whats needed above - the data sheet talks of 50m ranges for I2C and if the speed is set to the minimum - i would give this a try

@CeylordZ I suspect the issue is because the USB connection goes away in sleep - but I have no idea how you get this back without restarting the serial connection from the PC

@buidiena3 you cannot use the same pin for both interfaces, but you can use different pins than the default ones for I2C or Onewire. Just look into the documentation, how to specify the pins for the interfaces.

@jcaron Thanks for clarifying my imprecise answer and for outlining how the procedure might have been implemented within GitHub. Appreciate it!

I have used this enclosure for some time ... [image: 551a045bc523a15e532197096cedd9cf466f868e.jpg] ... and it loois this way after two or three years outside in the sun: [image: 2aece59715c1918124660422f6b67b8c480e1fd5_2_1035x582.jpeg] It's getting "blind" but I'm still impressed that energy harvesting works even with the suboptimal top! The enclosure is a no name waterproof case from ebay so I'm not sure if it was intended to use it outside by the manufacturer. Maybe you'll find better cases for full sun. Nevertheless it's working. I had some hot glue in the case and indeed it melts while hot summer period. So it's true the "clear" top will act as a glas house.

@arthurlutz I'm using a Max17043 to read the State of Charge of a LiPo Battery, It sits between the battery and the charger or the wipy. (https://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/MAX17043-MAX17044.pdf) sparkfun has a nice board for it (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10617) It uses I2C to get the state. Even wrote a library for it (https://github.com/andrethemac/max17043.py). André
