@lj We are not aware of any issues with the deep sleep shield. Could you please either post the code you are testing or email support@pycom.io ?

@mj I do not know what you intention was, but may something like this, which just changes the message content and initializes total for the first run. import os import socket import time import struct import machine import network from network import LoRa from machine import Timer # A basic package header, B: 1 byte for the deviceId, B: 1 byte for the pkg size _LORA_PKG_FORMAT = "BB%ds" _LORA_PKG_ACK_FORMAT = "BBB" DEVICE_ID = 0x01 # Open a Lora Socket, use tx_iq to avoid listening to our own messages # Please pick the region that matches where you are using the device: # Asia = LoRa.AS923 # Australia = LoRa.AU915 # Europe = LoRa.EU868 # United States = LoRa.US915 chrono = Timer.Chrono() lora = LoRa(mode=LoRa.LORA, frequency = 915000000) lora_sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_LORA, socket.SOCK_RAW) lora_sock.setblocking(False) total = 0 while(True): # Package send containing a simple string msg = "Device 1 Here, Time difference %d total" % total pkg = struct.pack(_LORA_PKG_FORMAT % len(msg), DEVICE_ID, len(msg), msg) lora_sock.send(pkg) # Wait for the response from the gateway. NOTE: For this demo the device does an infinite loop for while waiting the response. Introduce a max_time_waiting for you application waiting_ack = True while(waiting_ack): recv_ack = lora_sock.recv(256) chrono.start() if (len(recv_ack) > 0): device_id, pkg_len, ack = struct.unpack(_LORA_PKG_ACK_FORMAT, recv_ack) if (device_id == DEVICE_ID): if (ack == 200): chrono.stop() total = chrono.read_us() waiting_ack = False # If the uart = machine.UART(0, 115200) and os.dupterm(uart) are set in the boot.py this print should appear in the serial port print("ACK") else: waiting_ack = False # If the uart = machine.UART(0, 115200) and os.dupterm(uart) are set in the boot.py this print should appear in the serial port print("Message Failed") time.sleep(5)

@seb First I want to thank you for your help - you have helped me resolve the board detection issue. I understand try/except is the "python way" but as a developer with a much more structured background I was hoping for a solution that might be more robust so as not to encounter issues in the future as the interface or hardware might change. I really do appreciate your time and effort and I understand this is likely the best solution for now.

Depends on your application especially how often do you want to collect that information but as a suggestion just have the main "collector" node listening all the time and then the Pytrack nodes send their position based on some movement threshold - or at random time intervals. What you want is to minimise the chance of on-air collisions due to the PyTrack nodes trying to send their location at the same time.

@costelcotae it was not a real effort to do it, just a byproduct of some other testing, so I don't have much details. I believe it was just set at SF12. Of course I can't say it was reliable, I just know I saw a few such packets in logs. As far as I understand it, the gateways are outdoors, roof-mounted, with relatively large antennas (but not directional), so this may make a bit difference.

It is worth noting that LoPy node with multi-frequencies and ADR needs a proper LoRaWan gateway (with multi-frequencies and multi-SF). Not the LoPy LoRaWan nano-gateway which isn't certified as LoRaWan gateway.

@oldguydave IP addresses for WiFi are by default assigned with DHCP so if you have that on your network each LoPy will get it’s own IP address.

@seb I wasn't aware of github releases, this is ok for me. Regarding vscode, I installed without problems so far, running correctly but pylint is always complaining (although the firmware works). [image: 1517225752709-33e2d6d9-f894-4303-8937-261eca4f1b63-image.png] I'm new to micropython and don't know if I must download the entire firmware and place it somewhere.. or steps needed to correctly setup my dev environment in order to activate code completion and linter (if both are possible).

@danielm said in LoRa module with TXCO: What difference in radio performance can be expected for L04 vs L01? SX127x chips offer lower bandwidth modes than 125kHz but you need a TXCO to use them. In LoRaWAN lower bandwidth not used to keep device prices low, but it can be usefull in other P2P or mesh network applications. Of course you need a Pycom firmware also which supports it in RAW LoRa mode.

Never mind I found the problem. It was actually in the line above paramVal = self._device.readfrom_mem(self._address, SI1145_REG_PARAMRD, 1)
