      I have tried this before with LoRa and it didn't work. I expect the same result with Wi-Fi as the clock and other network delays are the biggest problems. To get accurate results you would need a very reliable clock, which isn't available. Also ntp servers will only let you sync up to a certain accuracy which is not good enough by far. Fingerprinting, multilateration etc. are maybe alternatives you could check out.

      @livius First i tried it in boot.py - then i moved it to main.py. Both with no success. Then i had an idea. I'm using a FritzBox with Wifi on 2.4 and 5 GHz with the same ssid. I think this is the root cause. I enabled the guest AP and tried to connect to this - and this is working. So at least i have workaround for me! But anyway , thanks a lot for your help!

      @robert-hh Thanks for the snippet. I can confirm that it seems to be a problem with my windows machine. I can now connect to the LoPy in STA mode via telnet and ftp (with my linux machine). Thanks for all the suggestions!

      After doing a lot of extra experimentation, I found the problem to be solvable by moving the WiFi setup code ( so the wlan.init() calls ) to boot.py and by including the mode parameter in the wlan.init() call instead of doing a preliminary call to wlan.mode(). There are some hickups with connecting to the LoPy through the new configuration on Windows, but it seems to work fine on Linux.

      Hi @Eric24, I might be incorrect on this but I believe that when you wake from deep sleep, the device should start up with the radios turned off. Regardless, you should be able to configure the radios to remain off at power on by tweaking and building the firmware yourself. I'll make this suggestion to have an option to disable radios baked into our official Firmware itself.

      Hey @livius, that did the trick, again! Thx a lot, that makes even easier the deployment process, and i´ve also learned pretty nice stuff in the meanwhile. By the way, i first tried to make it work by cloning the project 'master' branch, but that code wasn´t making the deal yet. To make things work i had to clone the 'devel' branch (that by the way it´s weird because it´s one version behind 0.9.3 than master 0.9.4). Thx a lot again man, saved my life!

      As you need to connect using wireless to modify 'boot.py' in the first place this makes disabling the wireless interface by default an 'interesting' challenge to a new user! Hopefully the wireless, bluetooth, etc are only started (if not already active) after 'boot.py' is executed.

      @michalt38 OK. Then you'll need two steps: First, you have to connect the WiPy to the network. That's done with wlan.connect, as given in my sample scripts. Second: you have to write a little program for you WiPy and your PC that connects through sockets and sends the data. The IP adresses used are those of the WiPy and the PC, not the one of the router. You have to define which entity connects (socket.connect() ) and which entity accepts (socket.accept()). For initial testing, you can use for the PC side netcat (nc), which is a simple raw socket send/receive program. Examples for the WIPy side are here: https://docs.python.org/3/howto/sockets.html or here: https://www.tutorialspoint.com/python3/python_networking.htm

      @Innocenzo The latter is easy, I have that in all of my espxxx's main.py: wlan = network.WLAN(network.STA) for _ in range(10): if wlan.isconnected(): print('\nnetwork config:', wlan.ifconfig()) break print('.', end='') time.sleep(1) else: print("\nCould not connect")

      Hi @KMcLoud - I'm just having a look into this for you! I'll get the docs updated to reflect this as you're right, this isn't very clear!
